Alright, so with Legion just around the corner, I feel its safe to say this guide needs to be put up in readiness.
Demon Hunters. We all love'em, but how many actually know them? Demon Hunter RP has always existed, but now its going to double and the old stigma of Goldshire grade Demon Hunters, commonly described as 'horny edgelords' is something that needs to be cast aside.
Now, i'm actually going to open up...with a video! This Video from the Youtube user Nixxiom, actually shows how Demon Hunters work quite neatly. WARNING: Flashing Images.
The quote at the beginning is something worth noting.
"To walk the path is to have no contradictions and to make no compromises. From the Rite of Becoming, to the cutting of your eyes, you must dedicate your life in destroying the Burning Legion. Through your life you will wage this war, relentlessly. Your final solace will be to fall in battle against the Legion. That is all."
Being a Demon Hunter, means you give up everything to fight the Legion. Those who share your goal are your ally so long as those goals align, anything to crush your Demonic foe. If you're one of those Demon Hunters with three lovers and a dozen kids? The door is that way -->[]
Usually, a Demon Hunter takes the oath after traumatic events and typically when they have nothing else. Home lost, family gone, etc etc. You have nothing to lose and thus nothing to fear. Every waking moment is spent either perfecting your skills, or slaying Demons. It isn't a path one embarks on lightly either, because there is no going back, you will always be marked by the powers you take in.
Another note. Demon Hunters, true Demon Hunters like illidan, are ONLY Elves. I've about had it with the people screaming out for Orc and Human Demon Hunters, because they do not exist. A person might be a hunter of Demons, but that does not make them the blindfold wearing, warglaive wielding Demon Hunters we've known since Warcraft 3. They are peerless with their weapons and have no equal in battling the Legion, no Orc or Human is going to match them. This is in part because of the Elves' magical adaptability. Elves are easily warped by the powers they come into contact with, which is why there are so many kinds(Kaldorei, Highborn, Quel/Sin'dorei, Nightborne, Felblood etc). This in turn means they adapt to the powers they wield more completely than any other race is capable of(Except maybe the Naga, but that is pure theory).
One more thing worth mentioning, is Metamorphosis. Do not go tossing it about. Only veteran Demon Hunters are capable of controlling their inner Demon and even then, it can go horribly wrong. Go raid SSC in Outland, you'll find a Demon Hunter who is overwhelmed by the Dreadlord he consumed for his power, meaning the Demon gained power over him. This is one of the major risks a Demon Hunter takes as well as their greatest trial. If you are a relatively new Demon Hunter, you aren't going to be turning into an uber-hunter with the power of a Pit Lord, more likely you'd get possessed by it and screw your allies over.
So, how do you go about setting up a Demon Hunter for Roleplay? well, easy path is wait for Legion and grab the class, but if you're impatient, the basic gear is pretty simple. A kilt, some bandages(if female, bare top if male) and maybe some gloves and boots. Bracers also work fine instead of gloves. For weapons its harder, ideally you want the Warglaives of Azzinoth, but odds are you'll be stuck using the Black Bow of the Betrayer for a Warglaive for some time, both of course obtained from illidan in Black Temple raid. You'll also want the Blindfold that drops from illidan as well.
That's all for now, if you have any questions regarding Demon Hunters, feel free to post below and i'll answer in weekly chunks.
